West Point Development Corporation contracted Seawall Coastal Industries to erect the 200-foot-long wall in front of its property for erosion protection of the lighthouse.
Buried within the wall in West Point are vertical and horizontal steel I-beams, welded together. The three by six-inch hemlock planks along the outer wall are bolted to the I-beams. Island stone is piled behind the planks. The existing sand dune forms the back wall. A layer of geo-tech fabric was placed between the dune and the stones.
"We hope that there’s other uses for it throughout Prince Edward Island,” Ellis expressed. “There’s a lot of erosion around Prince Edward Island, and there’s a lot of cottage owners who have expressed an interest."
